43-Holy Cross High School of Everett, Washington opens its doors
Archbishop Murphy was a big believer in the value of Catholic education. He felt very strongly how Catholic schools play a meaningful role in shaping the future of the local church and community.
A local group of Catholics identified a need for a new high school in Everett, WA – approximately 20 miles north of Seattle. At the time, there was not a single Catholic secondary school between Seattle and the northern border of the state. Archbishop Murphy enthusiastically supported this group. He worked through the Archdiocese of Seattle to secure a $200,000 line of credit for the new school. The archbishop also made a sizable personal donation.
Holy Cross High School opened its doors in the Fall of 1988. The first graduating class of 23 students received their diplomas in 1991.
