13-The beginnings of a vibrant ministry to lay and religious women
Father Murphy serves as the moderator of the Chicago Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women from 1968 to 1971.
Bishop Murphy shared the following reflection in an address delivered on October 2, 1978 to the Great Falls, MT Council of Catholic Women regarding his service as moderator, “I served full time as the Council of Catholic Women diocesan moderator in the Archdiocese of Chicago. And in those three years, I learned a great deal from the women with whom it was my privilege to work and pray. I owe the Council of Catholic Women a tremendous debt of gratitude for contributing their gifts to me as a man, as a priest, and now as a Bishop.”
