The sacrament of reconciliation – a gift of love

In his weekly “In Joy and Hope” column for the Catholic Northwest Progress, Archbishop Murphy extols the virtues of the sacrament of reconciliation. “As disciples of Jesus, we are called to ongoing conversion and renewal,” he said. “The church assists us in living out this vocation by challenging all the baptized who have sinned to acknowledge their sins against God and their neighbor and to have heartfelt repentance for them.” The archbishop describes reconciliation as an experience which prompts the penitent to examine the root causes of sin and seek ways in which we might change our errant ways.
