The tension of hope

In one of his first weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” columns, Archbishop Murphy describes the meaning and origins of his episcopal motto – “In Christ Joy and Hope.” The terms joy and hope are two of the prominent themes arising out of the Vatican II “Constitution of the Church in the Modern World.” “In many ways, this is what Vatican II offered to me and to our faith community,” said Archbishop Murphy. “More and more, I am convinced that we need to look for the joy and hope which is central to our faith and tradition as a community of faith.”
