The challenge of integrity

Archbishop Murphy offers his perspective on the wide disagreement between church doctrine and the experience of American Catholics in his weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column. In the core questions of religious belief, the challenge has always been, and continues to be, whether we are faithful to the heritage we share. The archbishop acknowledges legitimate dissent. In those cases, the church must be willing to listen. He also believes the church can and must do a better job of teaching to close the gap between church doctrine and the daily experience of American Catholics.
