Priesthood: A needed and essential ministry

Archbishop Murphy discusses the urgent need for vocations to the priesthood in his weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column. He characterizes vocations as a sign of life and hope. The archbishop believes the encouragement of vocations is the responsibility of the entire Christian community. Each one of us must ask what we can do to find ways to ask young men to consider the priesthood. “In the face of this tremendous need, we cannot remain silent. We cannot just sit back and do nothing,” said Archbishop Murphy. “May we have the courage and faith to fulfill our responsibility to encourage vocations to the priesthood.”
