Ash Wednesday

Archbishop Murphy characterizes Ash Wednesday as a symbol of life in his homily in a Mass at St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA to mark the beginning of Lent. “The challenge of Lent is to turn – to turn from where we are to where we should be,” he said. “And we are asked to turn not with our minds or ideas or intellect. We are asked to turn to God with all our hearts.” Ash Wednesday celebrates life – a life that began on the day of our baptism.
