Sunday Mass at Immaculate Conception Church

Archbishop Murphy delivered this homily at a Mass celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church in Seattle, WA just after the riots in Los Angeles, CA spurred on by the Rodney King beating. “Underneath the layers of violence was the reality of racism – the denial of the goodness, graciousness and dignity of every human being created in the image of God,” said the archbishop. He believes the church can play a role in developing solutions to end racism through job creation and granting more scholarships to Catholic schools. The archbishop proceeds to ask the congregation a seminal question, “Have we learned anything about what it means to live together as brothers and sisters in a spirit of hope?”
