1992 – a new year

Archbishop Murphy shares his perspectives on the gift of time in his first “In Joy and Hope” column of 1992 published in the Catholic Northwest Progress. He established a tradition of writing an annual New Year’s Day column. The archbishop describes the end of one year and the beginning of a new one as an opportunity to reflect on life. “If you’re anything like myself, I appreciate now more than ever the precious gift of time spent with family and friends,” said Archbishop Murphy. “… I have grown to respect the gift of life by recognizing how wonderful it is to breathe, to walk, to see, to hear, to be alive.”
