The ambiguity of advent

Archbishop Murphy, in his weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column, defines Advent as a call to hope which looks to the future. Advent is a special time for the Christian community – a time to share a common vision and experience of what yet needs to be accomplished. It is the celebration of the “not yet.” “Few times in the course of the year are as challenging to Christians as is the season of Advent,” said Archbishop Murphy. “Advent calls us to live in the ambiguity of the “not yet,” as we live in the presence of Christ and wait for his final coming.”
