Political responsibility: It’s not an option

Archbishop Murphy addresses the role of the Catholic Church and religious organizations in general in the political arena in his weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column. He believes it is not only our right but our obligation to actively participate in the political process especially on issues affecting the dignity of human beings. The archbishop asserts all Catholics must engage on issues such as abortion, death penalty, euthanasia, prejudice, poverty and war. “May we all respond to this challenge of political responsibility by being active and informed voters,” said Archbishop Murphy. “May we face with honesty and courage the significant issues of our day which have moral dimensions and human consequences.”
