At the Anointing of the Sick Mass celebrated in St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA, Archbishop Murphy’s homily focused on the gift of life. He offered this homily in the weeks just prior to Election Day when residents of Washington State will vote on Initiatives 119 and 120. These initiatives will respectfully legalize assisted suicide for terminally ill adults and materially expand abortion rights. The archbishop urged all present to safeguard the gift of life – to protect the most vulnerable in society. In closing he said, “… thank you for the dignity with which you live out your lives, despite the challenges which God has asked of you. You are a precious gift to all of us.”
