Appreciating the gift of life – before it disappears

The gift of life is the subject of Archbishop Murphy’s weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column. Specifically, he offers perspectives on his fierce opposition to Initiatives 119 and 120 – two Washington State ballot initiatives that would respectively legalize euthanasia and significantly expand abortion rights. The archbishop was an unwavering defender of the sanctity of life from conception to the moment of natural death. “Though Initiatives 119 and 120 are distinct issues, they share the common ground of attacking the value of life either in the womb of the mother or the terminally ill person,” said Archbishop Murphy. “We need to appreciate the value of life in our society today before it disappears.”
