Stewardship: A Challenge for Catholics Today

Stewardship was one of Archbishop Murphy’s passions. In advance of the release of a pastoral letter on stewardship, he wrote this essay to provide an overview of the fundamental basics and historical Gospel origins of this concept. In his view, discipleship is at core of what it means to be a good steward – it demands a conversion and a change of heart. “Life is a gift from God,” said Archbishop Murphy. “Though we may claim ownership of resources and credit ourselves with talents and abilities, it is obvious that all human beings are stewards of the gifts of a good and gracious God.”
