The Challenge of Justice in the Gospel – Catholic Community Services Dinner
Archbishop Murphy’s keynote address at the Catholic Community Services of Western Washington Dinner Celebration focused on the origins and historical traditions of Catholic social teaching: just wages, human rights and the right to unionize and collectively bargain. He described the basis for the church’s social ministry as founded on the life and words of Jesus Christ who came to serve the poor and provide liberty to captives. “These themes of Catholic social teaching are not just lessons found in print,” said Archbishop Murphy. “They must come alive in our own lives, in the marketplace and the political arena.”
