The Pastoral Letter on Stewardship – How It Began….And Where It’s At

Archbishop Murphy was a pioneer in advancing the concept of stewardship. He chaired an ad hoc committee of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops charged with writing a pastoral letter on this subject. This address given to the National Catholic Development Conference provides an overview of the steps leading up to the writing and publishing of “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response.” The archbishop’s top priority was to focus the pastoral letter on stewardship’s biblical and traditional ideals which are far broader and more inclusive than simply raising money for the Church.
