Pastoral Reflection – The Dignity of Work

Archbishop Murphy collaborated with Archbishop Hunthausen, Bishop Skylstad of Spokane, WA and the Reverend Perron Auve of Yakima, WA to author a pastoral reflection on the dignity of work in Washington State in September of 1990 to commemorate Labor Day. The pastoral letter focuses in detail on the challenges and values of human labor. In conclusion, the prelates offered the following observation, “We know there are no immediate answers or quick solutions to these and other challenges in our society today. However, we cannot be complacent as we seek ways to work together for a just society which enhances the dignity of every human being and the work each person offers for the common good.”
