August 11, 1988

Archbishop Murphy gave a homily at Mass held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Seattle, WA to celebrate Mary the Mother of God. The main focus of his remarks was on the common faith and traditions all Roman Catholics and Episcopalians share. He asked all present to focus on the similarities between the two faiths that far outweigh the differences. The archbishop cited Mary the Mother of God as an example. He offered the following thought, “A recognition of Mary as a person who holds a special place in both our faith traditions is especially important for us as we strive for greater unity and understanding.”
