Celebration of Church Unity Octave Week

Archbishop Murphy presided at the Mass to celebrate Church Unity Octave Week at St. Cecilia Church in Bainbridge Island, WA. The main subject of his homily was ecumenism. He identified fear of the unknown as one of the impediments to a greater sense of cooperation between different faiths. “Ecumenism today asks us to appreciate the many dimensions of our faith which we share in common, while recognizing at the same time the areas of difference,” said Archbishop Murphy. “Ecumenism demands that we are knowledgeable and committed to our own faith and that we are open to be aware of the faith and commitment of other Christians.”
