Parish Mission – Celebration of Reconciliation

Bishop Murphy conducted a parish mission on the celebration of reconciliation during the 1987 Lenten season. He described Jesus’s mission on earth as a ministry of healing where Christ reached out to the sick and the sinner. The bishop challenged all present to view sin in the context of their relationships with God, their neighbors and themselves. Bishop Murphy articulated this belief by stating, “When we focus in on relationships, we have a better understanding of sin for we see that if our relationship with God and with others has been weakened or broken, then God’s life is weakened or destroyed within us.”
