“College Seminaries: Do They Have a Future”

Bishop Murphy delivered this address on the future of college seminaries at a gathering of alumni of Niles College of Loyola University in Niles, IL. The main focus of his remarks was to assess the value and importance of college seminaries in the life of the church today. He offered the following observation, “A college seminary program by its very nature is successful if it offers the student the opportunity for discernment where such discernment leads to the decision of continuing on for priesthood or choosing an alternate career.”
