Ordination to the Priesthood

Bishop Murphy in his homily describes the sacrament of holy orders as a vocational choice – receiving of God’s gift of grace, but also a call for a sense of mission in sharing this gift with others. In speaking directly to the three candidates for ordination, he says, “Ordination is not a private affair, or a call to be the ordained minister to only one group of people or to one community. You are being wed tonight to a diocese, to a local Church that receives its identity from a fidelity and loyalty to a universal Church under Pope John Paul II.”
