Welcome Mass

Archbishop Raymond G. Hunthausen celebrates a Welcome Mass for Coadjutor Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy at St. James Cathedral on July 13, 1987.

During the Mass, Coadjutor Archbishop Murphy delivering a moving homily that concluded with the following statement, “And finally, I hope to share the role of service in building up the Body of Christ with Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen, a man whom I deeply respect and appreciate for his commitment to the Gospel and the Church. Why did I respond to the invitation to ‘Come and see’ here in Western Washington? There are many reasons, but a primary one would be the ability to work, pray, laugh, dream, and even cry at times with our Archbishop, Raymond Hunthausen.”
