The parish priest – a lifelong vocation

After ordination, Father Murphy served as an associate pastor at a several parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. Parish life left an indelible mark on the future archbishop. For in his view, the real meaning of the church is established, maintained and nurtured at the parish level.

No matter where his vocation took him, from Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan, to the great plains of Montana and ultimately to Seattle on beautiful Puget Sound, Archbishop Murphy to his dying day joyfully embraced the role of parish priest always in search of ways to make a difference in the lives of people from all walks of life.
