The birth of “A New Wind and Fire”

Archbishop Murphy in conjunction with the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council published a five-year vision statement for the Church of Western Washington called “A New Wind and Fire.” The vision statement identified two overall priorities for the Church of Western Washington:

  • The importance of providing a rich sense of spirituality to all members of the church
  • To acknowledge and create a sense of awareness of the gifts that God has bestowed on each person and to make a commitment to share those gifts with others.

The archbishop stated the following at a press conference announcing the new vision statement, “Hopefully, over the next five years, the archdiocese itself, our parish and faith communities and each individual will reflect on the priorities in ‘A New Wind and Fire.’ This vision statement will make a difference in our local church if we dare to allow the Holy Spirit to unleash a wind and fire that will renew the face of the earth today.”
