Archbishop Murphy is discharged from Providence Seattle Medical Center

After undergoing 39 days of intensive treatment at Providence Seattle Medical Center, Archbishop Murphy is discharged from the hospital the week of January 6, 1997. He returned home to Connolly House where he continued to receive treatments and convalesce. Archbishop Murphy’s brother Bart Murphy and sister Eileen Frey, along with their spouses Carolyn and Dennis, and the Reverend Harold Stanger, continued to be present and play a material role in his recovery as they had since he was first admitted to the hospital.

The archbishop shared the following thought on his stay at Providence Seattle Medical Center, “I was a patient at Providence Hospital for 39 days. Some people maintain it was the longest time I have been in one place since I was in my mother’s womb. Let me say immediately how grateful I am for the quality health care I received from every member of the hospital staff. Let me also say how much I learned from those who shared this time with me as patients in the oncology wing of the hospital.”
