A tireless advocate for the poor and downtrodden

Archbishop Murphy announces a $6 million plan to fight poverty, hunger and homelessness in the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington. A central element of the plan was a social center that provides food, health care and counseling to families and the elderly. Other material aspects of the initiative included the construction of 26 low-income townhouses and a $500,000 home equity loan fund for low-income families who want to purchase and rehabilitate homes in the Hilltop neighborhood.
