Archbishop Murphy anoints the palms of the candidate for priesthood with the oil of chrism.

A final opportunity to confer the sacrament of holy orders

The sacrament of holy orders was one which Archbishop Murphy truly cherished.  He had the privilege of ordaining David Mayovsky, Kurt Nagel and James Northrop at St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA on June 12, 1997 – two weeks prior to his death.

The archbishop concluded his homily by sharing the following reflection, “Last December, I never dreamed I would be here to celebrate this day. But it is amazing what God’s grace can do. I give thanks with all of you for the grace that we celebrate today. It is the grace of being able to ordain David Mayovsky, Kurt Nagel and James Northrop to priesthood. May they share their gifts of grace with us for years to come – and we give thanks.”
